Joe Delaney Cup Final 2014

Clodiagh Rangers FC hosted the eighth edition of the Joe Delaney Cup Final at their grounds earlier this month with BT Harps Youths and Peake Villa Youths competing for honours, ensuring that there would be a new name on the cup.

The Joe Delaney Cup is contested between the top youth division teams from the TS&DL and NT&DL and is named after one of Tipperary’s best-known FAI Administrators, Joe Delaney from Tipperary town, who also happens to be father of FAI CEO, John Delaney. To increase the sense of occasion, the FAI Junior Cup, and the FAI Youth Cup, were present in the proud possession of Tipperary club sides, St. Michaels FC, and Nenagh AFC, respectively.

In the football action, last year’s beaten finalist, Peake Villa Youths, were the favourites for the title after finishing the season with a TSDL Youths League & Cup double to their credit and secured a surprise but merited first round win over FAI Youths Cup winners Nenagh AFC following a penalty shootout.

BT Harps Youths were somewhat unlucky to finish runners up to Nenagh AFC in Division One of the NT&DL Youths League and went in as underdogs. Despite putting up a brave resistance BT Harps Youths succumbed to their TSDL rivals on a scoreline of three goals to one. FAI CEO, John Delaney, was present to award the Joe Delaney Cup to the victorious Peake Villa captain, and our own club Chairman Eamonn Maher, and Committee members Adrian Cooke and John Ryan availed of the opportunity to get their photo taken with John Delaney.
