Colm Stapleton
Clodiagh into the fourth round of the FAI Junior Cup on Sunday afternoon with an encouraging away win against South Tipperary premier league side Cashel Town.

Clodiagh made the better start, settling into the game early, with Barry O'Loughlin and Shane O'Dwyer combining well on the left flank to force the home team onto the back foot.

On the half hour mark Clodiagh Rangers hit the lead with a fantastic goal finished by Colm Stapleton. Matt Ryan, John Dwyer and Paul Doyle were all involved in the move before releasing Stapleton whose instinctive first time effort flew past the Cashel Town keeper into the bottom corner of the net.

Cashel Town redoubled their efforts in the second half in an attempt to claw their way back into the match, but they met stern resistance in the form of the Clodiagh Rangers back five with young James Murray excelling under the increasing scrutiny of the Cashel Town attack.

The pairing of Ryan and Foxton performed well in the Clodiagh Rangers midfield and maintained a steady supply of ball to the widemen throughout the ninety where the pace of Doyle and substitute Owen Shortt had the hosts defence on full alert.

Even when Cashel Town managed to breach the Clodiagh Rangers defence with time running out, Adrian Cooke pulled off a masterful save to ensure the Drombane side's safe passage to the fourth round.
