Division 1
Clodiagh Rangers
Paul Doyle

Clodiagh were away from home again on Sunday last, this time travelling to Monegall for an 11.30 kick-off against their division one counterparts. The first half was a fairly even contest, with neither keeper called into serious action, but with a bit more luck the visitors might have gone in a goal up at the break. Gareth Foxton played Tommy Stevens through on goal to spring the Moneygall offside trap, and despite placing the ball through the advancing keepers legs, Stevens saw his effort drift agonisingly wide of the post.
Moneygall started the second half much the stronger of the two sides, but Clodiagh weathered the storm and almost grabbed a breakthrough goal, when Denis McCullagh executed a neat stopover on a Paul Doyle pass to allow Tommy Stevens room to shoot, but again his effort shaved the wrong side of the post. Moneygall eventually broke the deadlock on the hour mark, when a flick on at the edge of the box from a freekick landed at the feet of a Moneygall attacker six yards out, and he duly finished, though there was more than a suspicion of offside.
Clodiagh responded well to the setback and after sustained pressure from a corner kick, Paul Doyle was upended in the box, and the in form striker dusted himself off to convert the resultant penalty.
Clodiagh pushed hard for a lead goal, but Moneygall had the final say when they scored what would prove to be the winner, somewhat against the run of play, with a well-placed header from a corner kick.
