Clodiagh entertained neighbours Thurles Town ĎA' in Drombane on Sunday still in search of their first Premier League points of the season. Thurles Town drew first blood in this derby affair when Tom Kirby opened the scoring after five minutes, finishing off a fine counterattack move.

Clodiagh Rangers were in no mood for a repeat of their Shield Final defeat to same opponents though and quickly stamped their authority on the game. The home side got themselves back on level terms when Paul Doyle raced onto a Denis McCullagh through ball to finish expertly.

Clodiagh Rangers took the lead before the interval, this time McCullagh applying the finishing touch after a neat build-up involving Doyle and Mark Quinlan up front. Early in the second half Adrian Cooke made an athletic intervention in the Clodiagh Rangers goal to deny Thurles Town an equaliser. At the other end the home side continued to apply the pressure and Mark Quinlan fired home his first of the afternoon to give Clodiagh Rangers some breathing space.

Matt Ryan added further daylight between the teams with a fine solo run and finish to put three between the sides. Quinlan then netted his second of the game to add to the away side's woes. To their credit Thurles Town rallied and managed to reduce the arrears by two with Morgan Lanigan and Jim Gooney finding the net.

Man of the match Paul Doyle rounded off the scoring with time running so seal three welcome points for the Drombane side.
