Clodiagh entertained Premier league BT Harps in Drombane on Sunday morning in the second round of the Munster Junior Cup.

The home team took an early lead when Matt Ryan crashed the ball home from close range after Mark Quinlan and Tommy Stevens had combined to dispossess the BT Harps defender and set up the Clodiagh Rangers midfielder.

Matt Ryan continued to cause the away team all sorts of problems down their left hand side, with Killian O’Neill the main threat for BT Harps at the other end.

The visitors upped the ante in the second half and despite a solid defensive display from Clodiagh Rangers the pressure finally told with ten minutes to play as BT Harps forced an equalizer through Sean McCormack from a corner kick to take the match to extra time.

BT Harps carried their momentum into the first period of extra time and duly took the lead with another set piece goal, this time Dean McEnroe applying the finishing touch.

Clodiagh Rangers displayed exceptional resilience to wrestle back the initiative in the second period of extra time and pulled themselves level when Gareth Foxton headed home emphatically from a corner kick.

With time running out and the inevitability of penalties approaching, Mark Quinlan displayed great trickery to evade a number of would be challenges and was upended by a mistimed tackle inside the penalty area.

Gareth Foxton stepped up to cooly slot the penalty and put the Drombane men through to round three.
