Clodiagh Rangers 'A' travelled to neighbors Borrisoleigh on Sunday last in desperate need of points to preserve their Premier League status. In a tentative first half, neither side committed many numbers to attack, but Clodiagh Rangers had Adrian Cooke to thank for two crucial saves in the opening period.

At the other end Gareth Foxton fired narrowly wide of the righthand post after being put through by some neat interplay between Doyle and Cullagh up front. At the start of the second half Borrisoleigh began to press forward in search of a lead goal and started to leave some gaps at the back with their keeper pulling off a fine save retreating to his line to keep out a dipping volley from Paul Doyle.

On the hour mark Borrisoleigh took the lead, when Benny Harkins latched onto a loose ball at the edge of the box to find the net despite the best efforts of Cooke in the Clodiagh Rangers goal. Clodiagh Rangers had plenty of chances to gain parity in the remaining half hour with Doyle crudely chopped down at the edge of the six yard box, but the referee pointed only to the corner flag.

Second half substitute Steven Fewer, set up by Liam Mc Cullagh, had a fierce goal bound effort palmed past the post by the Borrisoleigh keeper who was turning in a man of the match performance to frustrate the visitors.

With time running out, Clodiagh Rangers carved out a glorious chance to share the spoils when Matt Ryan and Paul Doyle combined to leave Joe Cullagh with the simplest of finishes but he will not want to be reminded of his resulting effort.

Clodiagh Rangers left empty handed and must once more turn to the solace of a cup fixture next Sunday at home to Nenagh AFC in the Ricky Fogarty Cup.
