With nothing less than three points an option to keep them in the title race, Clodiagh Rangers travelled to Islandbawn in Nenagh on Sunday last to take on the table-toppers.

Clodiagh Rangers weathered an initial period of dominance from the home side who monstered possession for the opening ten minutes, but to no real avail as they failed to carve out a single threatening chance.

Clodiagh settled into the contest and the midfield quartet began to match the Nenagh side for possession, with the visitors' direct attacking style of play causing problems for the Nenagh defence.

Clodiagh Rangers took a deserved lead on the half hour when Paul English found Paul Doyle in the Nenagh area, who squared for Denis Mc Cullagh to convert from close range.

Clodiagh Rangers almost doubled the advantage before half time when John Dwyer had a wicked volley from the edge of the area deflected just wide for a corner.

Nenagh once again started the second half with a lot of possession and were denied an early equalizer by a terrific save from Adrian Cooke. Clodiagh Rangers continued to threaten Nenagh on the break with Paul Doyle and Mark Quinlan coming close after combining well with Clodiagh Rangers midfield on the break.

Clodiagh Rangers had to withstand an inevitable onslaught from Nenagh in the last fifteen minutes, with Cooke performing heroics in the Clodiagh Rangers goal, helped in no small part by a goal line clearance from Paul English.

Clodiagh Rangers A' have a break in the fixture schedule next week with Nenagh AFC B' taking on Thurles Town in a top of the table clash that will go a long way towards deciding the destination of the league title.
