Sunday morning last saw the meeting of local rivals Clodiagh and Holycross with both sides in need of the points that would kickstart their league campaigns.

Clodiagh started brightly and should have taken the lead in the opening exchange, Ryan and Browne failing to seize on the early chance.

As the half progressed Holycross were displaying the greater fluency in midfield through the combined efforts of Fenessey and Dwyer.

And it was the latter's flick on which created the time and space for John King to calmly slot home the opening goal. Not content with a one goal advantage the away side continued to press using the pace of Denny and Flanagan on both flanks.

The half time break brought some respite to the home side and the opportunity to re-organise. The second half began with Clodiagh showing some of the required urgency and John Ryan quickly tested the reflexes of Buckley in the Holycross goal.

As the half progressed Clodiagh continued to press but were denied on numerous occasions by a well organised defensive line. Ultimately a fine left wing cross from Michael Browne reached the impressive Shane O Dwyer who cooly finished to restore parity.

With time running out both sides went close to snatching the three points. However in a game where neither club could afford to lose the clich├ęd, fair result was to be a satisfactory if not desired ending for both teams.
