FAI Junior Cup, 2nd round
Clodiagh Rangers
0-0(4-3 pens)
Cahir Park
Clodiagh entertained Cahir Park from Tipperary Southern and District League in the FAI Junior Cup second round on Sunday afternoon in Drombane.
The game was affected by a strong wind that turned this game into the proverbial 'game of two halves'. Playing into the wind in the first half, the Clodiagh defence were resolute, with the returning Greg Fewer in particular excelling under the pressure of the Cahir Park attack.
The second half saw the tables turned with Cahir Park doing most of the defending as Clodiagh cranked up the pressure on their visitors' goal.
Paul Doyle tested their keeper with a shot from inside the box just after the break and later had the keeper at full stretch to turn his free kick around the post. The advancing Cahir Park keeper denied Matt Ryan a breakthrough goal late on after he was played through by a combination of an impressive Gareth Foxton and Denis McCullagh cutting in from the right. With both sides scoreless at full time a further uneventful half hour of extra time was played out before the inevitability of penalties.
Gareth Foxton, Paul Doyle, Denis McCullagh and Joe Cullagh all executed their penalties to perfection and Adrian Cooke pulled off two fine saves to see Clodiagh Rangers through to the third round.
