Clodiagh Rangers 'A' exited the Munster Junior Cup at the hands of Ballymackey 'A' on Sunday morning with two hours of playing time and penalties required to separate the sides.

In a scrappy first half Clodiagh carved out a number of half chances from set pieces but rarely troubled the Ballymackey goalkeeper from play. The home side had the heroics of their own custodian to thank for the nil all scoreline at half time, with Adrian Cooke making two point-blank saves from close range headers to deny the visitors a halftime advantage.

Clodiagh Rangers increased the tempo at the beginning of the second half and took the lead around the hour mark after neat interplay between Matt Ryan and Paul Doyle released Mark Quinlan to slide the ball beyond the Ballymackey keeper.

Clodiagh Rangers spurned two glorious chances to double their advantage and in a final twenty minutes punctuated by freekick awards to Ballymackey in the Clodiagh Rangers half, the Drombane side were made to pay. With the last kick of the regulation ninety minutes, Rory Mounsey tapped in an equalizer after a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick.

In extra time Clodiagh Rangers were well on top and retook the lead in the first period. Gareth Foxton's slide rule through pass found substitute Joe Cullagh who confidently beat the keeper to score. Ballymackey refused to fold however and midway through the second period claimed an equalizer when a cross from the wing deceived the Clodiagh Rangers keeper and nestled in the top corner. And so to penalties, and Ballymackey can thank their shot-stopper Timmy Fleming who proved himself the difference in the shootout.
