FAI Junior Cup
Clodiagh Rangers
Michael Browne
Wilderness Rovers
In the second round of the FAI Junior Cup, Clodiagh welcomed South Tipperary Premier League side Wilderness Rovers in Drombane on Sunday afternoon last.

Clodiagh started the game very well and took the game to the pre match favourites. Attacking in numbers Clodiagh created all the early chances, Denis McCullagh having a header cleared off the line and minutes later a shot from distance from the same player rebounded off the angle of the goal.

A goal from the home side looked inevitable as the pressure was maintained. Michael Browne blazed over with the goal at his mercy.

However with half time approaching Clodiagh had failed to register on the scoreboard and paid the price when the Wilderness fired home.

Clodiagh regrouped quickly and Mc Cullagh and Ryan combined to tee up Browne to level the game. With parity restored and the break beckoning Clodiagh carelessly conceded the advantage again leaving the guests take a fortuitous one goal lead into the break.

Wilderness started the second half the stronger and quickly established a commanding four one lead. Clodiagh continued to attack and Mark Quinlan and Colm Breen both saw shots narrowly miss the target.

Replicating their first half misfortune, Clodiagh again tested the woodwork and saw a shot cleared off the line in quick succession midway through the half.

Wilderness progress to round two of the cup and Clodiagh will be left to rue their lack of killer instinct after what was a very entertaining cup tie.
