Clodiagh travelled to Portroe to take on Arra Rovers in this league encounter and had to dig deep to ensure all points went to the visitors, who had a number of enforced changes throughout the side.

Despite starting the brighter team with Michael Browne and Shane O'Dwyer combining well down the left flank, the hosts took a surprise lead after a quick counter attack saw an effort from distance fly into the lefthand corner of the net.

Clodiagh rallied and were soon on level terms when the impressive Mark Quinlan had the ball played to his feet by Gareth Foxton, and with his back to goal managed to flick the ball beyond the defender and lift it over the advancing keeper.

Shortly afterwards, Clodiagh took the lead after some neat play on the left, Shane O'Dwyer whipped in clever ball which saw Paul Doyle's overhead kick crash off the crossbar, but fell kindly to Ger Grant who finished from close range.

The visitors doubled their lead soon after when Paul Doyle cut in from the left hand touchline and floated the ball into the far left hand corner of the goal.

Doyle will maintain that this was the intended trajectory of the ball when he struck it, but we'll file this one under Ronaldinho vs Seaman, 2002. Clodiagh pushed forward and played some direct attacking football only to see a number of efforts hit the woodwork.

The home side were given a lifeline when a poor defensive clearance fell to the Arra Rovers striker who made no mistake and reduced the deficit to one.

Clodiagh's fourth goal was a strong contender for the goal of the game. The ball was worked from the defence via Cooke in goal to James Murray on the right who sprinted forward and found John Ryan, who in turn found Gareth Foxton, who showed great vision to play Shane O'Dwyer through on the left wing whose first time cross was clinically dispatched from the edge of the area by Foxton.

Clodiagh were pressed back deep in their own half for the remainder of the first half and the hosts efforts were rewarded when another poor clearance resulted in a similar finish from the Arra Rovers front man.

The second half saw the home side grab a foothold in the tie and came close on a number of occasions but were denied by some resolute defending.

As the game drew to a close, Ger Grant made a trademark run forward with the ball and was upended in the area. Paul Doyle dispatched the resultant penalty to copper fasten the win and more importantly all three points.

Clodiagh Rangers F.C. would like to thank Siobhan and Kevin Kennedy at Kennedys Pub and B&B in Upperchurch who kindly sponsored our new kit that was worn for the first time during this fixture.
