The Tipperary Cup second round provided welcome relief for Clodiagh Rangers from their league woes on Sunday last, with a morning visit to Ardcroney on the cards.
Clodiagh Rangers started the contest with a confidence belying their brittle league form and retained possession to good effect creating a number of half chances early on and affording an armchair ride to Adrian Cooke in their goal for most of the first half.

The away side opened the scoring inside half an hour when Liam McCullagh played in Michael Browne, who made no mistake from inside the area. Joe Cullagh doubled the lead shortly after when he capitalized on a poor back pass to pressurize the goalkeeper's clearance, and the ball ricocheted into the net off the striker.

Clodiagh Rangers continued to press their opponents high up the pitch in the second half and Joe Cullagh showed good composure to fire passed the advancing Ardcroney keeper after a terrific through ball from Paul Doyle.

Clodiagh Rangers were stung by an Ardcroney goal on the hour when the Gary Curran converted at the second attempt after Cooke had parried his initial shot. Defensive frailties threatened to undermine the Clodiagh Rangers effort when they conceded a penalty ten minutes later that Ardcroney duly converted.

Joe Cullagh dispelled any lingering hopes of an Ardcroney comeback when he completed his hatrick with fifteen minutes left with a fine run and strike to cap a fine individual performance.
