Barry Cup holders, Clodiagh Rangers bowed out of the competition against Nenagh AFC 'B' in Islandbawn last Sunday morning. The weather played a significant role on the proceedings with Clodiagh bossing much of the opening period, aided by a wind advantage, and opened the scoring inside fifteen minutes when Paul Doyle found the net from a left wing freekick.

While Clodiagh Rangers had the lions share of possession for the remainder of the half, a combination resolute defending by the home team and wasteful play in the final third by the visitors meant that Clodiagh could not extend their lead before the break.

Nenagh AFC were a different side in the second half, and with the wind advantage, pinned Clodiagh into their own half, with the visitors twice clearing off their line to prevent an equalizer.

The pressure told however and the hosts restored parity from a set piece when Shane O’Gorman bundled home a headed knockdown from a Gary Byrne free kick.

Nenagh AFC hit the lead with twenty minutes to play when Luke Kennedy smashed home a low drive from the edge of the area, latching onto a loose clearance from a left wing cross.

The visitors were stung into action and rallied in the closing fifteen minutes in an attempt to force extra time but came up against a Nenagh AFC backline in top form.

Second half substitute, Jason Forrestal, carved out an opening for an equaliser but his volleyed effort from inside the area was deflected agonizingly wide at the near post, while Greg Fewer headed effort from the resulting corner grazed the top of the bar.

The home team held out deservedly for the win and will contest the final against league champions Rearcross AFC.
