Clodiagh Rangers
In a bizarre turn of events Clodiagh Rangers 'A' played this away fixture with Blackcastle 'B' on home turf but failed to capitalize on home advantage on a balmy August evening in Drombane.

Despite the absence of a number of first choice players, Clodiagh Rangers started well, and Tommy Stevens making his debut for the senior team, turned in a good performance up front.

Blackcastle settled into the game however and started to assume territorial advantage over their hosts, and just after the half hour mark took the lead with a well worked move down the left that resulted in James Kavanagh clipping a close range shot beyond Adrian Cooke in the Clodiagh Rangers goal.

Clodiagh Rangers started the second half with purpose but failed to make inroads into the Blackcastle defense, prompting the management to make some changes to personnel and position.

While the changes seemed to make an initial impact with Paul Doyle going close to equalizing, the home team were stung for a second goal on the counter-attack with Paul Touhy finishing off a fine move.

Clodiagh Rangers continued to press for a goal that might give them a way back into the contest, becoming increasingly ragged in the process, with perhaps the best chance falling to Liam McCullagh whose effort at the back post from a right wing cross went the wrong side of the post.

A disappointing first league defeat for Clodiagh Rangers after a promising start to the season and they will look to bounce back against Ballymackey on Sunday week.
