Clodiagh travelled the short distance to take on neighbours, Holycross 'B', in this midweek game.

Clodiagh started well and although they created very few chances, they comfortably held Holycross scoreless to half time.

The second half however was a completely different affair with more open football being played by both teams as they went in search of an opening goal.

In fact it was Clodiagh Rangers that came closest early in the half when Shane Kinane had an excellent chance only for his shot to creep just wide of the post.

Sean Maguire and Paddy Ryan made way for the introduction of Vincent Ryan and Rory Ryan.

Midway through the half Holycross cut through the Clodiagh Rangers defense and they looked certain to break the deadlock but for young keeper, James Coffey, making a brilliant save. T

he Clodiagh Rangers defence came under further pressure as Holycross sensed that they could get the breakthrough and following a defensive lapse Davy English found himself through on goal and this time gave Coffey no chance as he blasted past him from close range.

Clodiagh Rangers struggled to recover after this setback, and despite the introduction of Peter Ryan who showed good ambition from right back, failed to make any real inroads in the Holycross defence.

Holycross piled on further misery for Clodiagh Rangers by hitting them with two sucker punches on the counter attack with Pierce Stakelum and Dinny Ferncombe getting on the score sheet.

The finishing scoreline should not however detract from a very impressive display by James Coffey between the posts.
