Clodiagh made it 3 wins from 4 in the league with a composed performance at Ballinderry on Saturday last.

Playing down the well known slope at the Ballinderry venue the home side tried to gain an advantage to take into the second half.

The game was about 20 minutes old when the break through came. A long ball played into the Clodiagh penalty area broke favourably to an on running Shannon midfielder who made no mistake from about 15 yards.

Shannon pressed to extend their advantage and in doing so left gaps at the back.

First to profit was Brian Hanrahan thanks in no small part to Joe Cullagh.

In a break away move Cullagh held the ball up superbly before finding Hanrahan on the left. He cut inside on to his right and his shot crept inside the keepers near post. It was Hanrahan’s first goal for the club and Clodiagh did not look back from then on.

The second followed soon after with Jack Spillane grabbing the goal of the game. John Ryan playing at right back released an early ball beyond the home side’s back 4 and into the path of Spillane.

Spillane ran some 30 yards before blasting the ball past the helpless Shannon keeper. Clodiagh all but ended the game before the break when Jason Forrestal swung in a dangerous ball from the left which was glanced into the bottom corner by Joe Cullagh.

Shannon tried to make a contest of it in the second half but a great save by Adrian Cooke coupled by great work by a defence marshalled by Alan Tierney insured that Clodiagh maintained their 2 goal advantage.
