Division 3 Shield
Clodiagh Rangers B
A severely depleted Clodiagh squad contested this Div 3 Shield quarter-final on Sunday last in Drombane hoping to continue a winning run that had begun earlier in the week in the same competition.

Perfect match conditions couldn't hide the dearth of quality in this game as both sides struggled to take any control of the tie and which reached halftime scoreless.
Gurtagarry probably having the lions share of the possession but few chances to show for it. The second half started brightly for Clodiagh with Seamus Cullagh coming close to opening the scoring and Stephen Gleeson beginning to impose himself in midfield and a good spell of possession for the home side followed, but unfortunately the Gurtagarry keeper was equal to everything Clodiagh could throw at him.

On the hour, against the run of play a rare mix up at the back allowed Gurtagarry a shot on goal and for once keeper Pat Treacy was unsighted and allowed the only goal of the game to pass him.

As Clodiagh pressed on for the equalizer, chances at both end began to materialize.

Rory Ryan shaved the post with an excellent free kick and Pat Phelan also came close, but it wasn't to be Clodiagh's day despite the efforts of man of the match, Treacy, in the Clodiagh Rangers goal.

Some work will be needed if this Clodiagh team is to make any impression on Division 3 this season but some positives can be taken by manager Pj Kennedy from this game that contained some promising passing moments and a decent defensive performance.
