Clodiagh 'B' made the long journey to Shannon Rangers on Friday evening for the quarter final of their divisional shield.
Clodiagh endured a difficult start to the match, playing with a low setting evening sun causing havoc and contributing to two sloppy goals conceded within the opening twenty minutes. The visitors managed to steady the ship however and could probably count themselves lucky to only be two goals in arrears at half time.
The second half was a very different story for the Drombane side as they took control of the match in almost every area of the pitch and deservedly pulled a goal back when rounded the keeper and calmly converted for his first goal of the season. Clodiagh Rangers were denied an equalizer when James Coffey was harshly judged to have been marginally offside when through on goal. The visitors weren't to be denied however and Patrick Purcell floated a brilliant finish into the top corner from the edge of the area to force the game to penalties.
Unfortunately Clodiagh Rangers were undone in the ensuing shoot-out, losing in sudden-death penalties 7-6.
