Division 3 (Shield)
Holycross B
Clodiagh Rangers B
On Friday evening last, a place in the Division 3 Shield Semi Final was the prize and a tough contest was inevitable with both teams eager for an early chance to collect silverware. Following a good showing in the opening round of the shield against Moneygall B', Clodiagh Rangers B' were optimistic when they travelled to take on Holycross B' at their new grounds.

As the game began both defences where clearly on top with no real chances. Clodiagh Rangers missed a great chance to grab the opening goal when Eamon Cullagh played through Seamus Cullagh who unfortunately fired straight at the goalkeeper. Only minutes later a lapse in concentration in the right back area for Clodiagh Rangers and Holycross were quick enough to pounce for the opening goal and it was 1-0 to them. John Ryan hit the post with a free kick just before halftime.

Early in the second half, Holycross grabbed two goals inside ten minutes. On two occasions the Clodiagh Rangers defence were caught out by quick ball from midfield and Holycross had a three-goal lead before Clodiagh Rangers could compose themselves for the second half.

For the remaining half an hour it was a case of damage limitation for Clodiagh Rangers and the introduction of Pat Shortt had an impact on proceedings. Clodiagh Rangers put together a number of good moves and created many chances however a mixture of poor finishing and a solid goalkeeping performance by Robert Quinlan between the sticks for Holycross meant that the game ended 3-0.
