Clodiagh B couldn't emulate their A team counterparts on their league opener with an unlucky loss to Arra Rovers on Sunday last.

The home side struggled from the start with an experimental line-up which unfortunately saw the mid field overrun by the strong Arra central play.

Clodiagh chances were few and far between in the opening half with Robbie Hanrahan and Sean Stakelum up front reduced to living on scraps and long range efforts.

Arra opened the scoring in the 34th minute after a defensive error from Eamon Cullagh allowed an attack which ended in a goal that Nathan Delaney between the Clodiagh sticks could do nothing about.

Six minutes later Arra doubled their lead after more defensive mix ups from the home side allowed the away side another soft goal.

Manager Vincent Ryan made a few necessary changes just after half time and Clodiagh finally began to make some sort of impressions on the match.

A good period of pressure did pay off on sixty three minutes when Jack Smith latched onto Brendan O'Loughlins fine through ball and buried his chance into the postage stamp corner to hand Clodiagh a lifeline.

As Clodiagh began to press for the equaliser cracks appeared in the Arra defence with both Joe Cullagh and Eugene Bourke failing to capitalise on some gilt edged opportunities in the final ten minutes.

A disappointing start to the season for Clodiagh B for sure, but today's infusion of a few promising new players can be grounds for some optimism as the year progresses.
