It was second vs third in Drombane on Sunday last with both teams locked on the same number of points.

Gurtagarry had the majority of the possession and took the lead mid way through the first half when a mix up in the Clodiagh defence presented Paul Ryan with an easy chance.

A further lapse of concentration allowed Willie Forde in on goal and he made it 0-2 with another close range effort. Clodiagh created little in the way of first half chances however Dean Carew came close to reducing the deficit before the break but he was denied by a great save from Brendan Hayes.

Gurtagarry continued to pile on the pressure on the home side in the second half.

Clodiagh kept the score down to two and began to grow in confidence in the last quarter. Shane McCormack struck from distance and forced a good save from Brendan Hayes.

Then Deane Carew came close with a headed effort from a Keith Ryan cross. The break through did arrive with fifteen minutes to go. A defence splitting pass by Alan Tierney played Carew in on goal.

Still with a lot to do and 20 yards out the in form striker rattled the bottom corner of the net to breath life into his side.

With seven minutes to go Clodiagh secured the all important equaliser. A cross field pass by Brian Hanrahan found a rampaging Dominik Pastorek on the edge of the visitors penalty box. Pastorek was brought down by the Gurtagarry defender and a penalty was awarded.

Carew stepped up and inevitably scored sending Brendan Hayes the wrong way in the process.

Clodiagh were delighted to secure what looked like an unlikely result at half time.

They stay amongst the chasing pack and will take great confidence in knowing that there is considerable room for improvement yet.
