Clodiagh 'B' were away to Shannon Rangers in Division Three fixture on Sunday afternoon, and it was an afternoon to forget for the Drombane outfit.

Ironically, Clodiagh started the game stronger than their hosts and were unlucky not to take the lead in the opening exchanges. Twenty minutes in, the visitors were stung with a classic counter attack goal, with the Shannon winger showing a clean set of heels to cut in from the left and finish beyond Coffey in the Clodiagh Rangers goal.

Clodiagh recovered their composure after this setback and were good value for their equaliser, when Leonard Purcell deftly lofted the ball over the opposing keeper from the edge of the area. The visitors suffered a blow before halftime when Darragh Spooner was forced off the field with a dead leg, and their misery was compounded when a defensive lapse allowed Shannon Rangers to regain the lead before the interval.

Clodiagh created a myriad of scoring chances in the second half with Joe Cullagh impressing after being switched to centre forward for the second half and Paudie Ryan had a number of efforts on target, but profligacy in front of goal meant that the collective performance was not reflected on the score sheet.

Shannon were less charitable at the other end and belted four unanswered second half goals past James Coffey to condemn Clodiagh to a heavy defeat.
