Clodiagh started this local derby in frantic fashion and were ahead after a minute, when following a goal mouth scramble Joe Cullagh followed up his own blocked effort to force the ball home from a range of about 6 inches. Ten minutes later Cullagh scored again, heading home at the back post, when a cross-shot was deflected into the air by the Kilcommon keeper.

Clodiagh dominated possession for the rest of half without making any serious threats on the Kilcommon goal - in fact it was the away side who came closest when after a fine run from the right wing a shot was cannoned off the crossbar from outside the box.

The second half was more evenly contested but on 70 minutes Clodiagh put the issue beyond doubt when Pakie Purcell struck a deceptively accurate shot from near the corner of the penalty area to the top right hand of the net.

Kilcommon responded immediately from the kick-off, taking advantage of complacency to advance through the centre of the defence to grab what proved to be a consolation goal.

Best for Clodiagh were Joe Cullagh and Colm Kennedy, best for Kilcommon was Donncha O'Brien and Seamus Carey.
