After some mixed results in pre season Clodiagh got their league campaign off to the perfect start with a great home win against a good Borrisokane side.

Clodiagh pressed the visitors in the early stages and went ahead when a brilliant cross by Ailbe O'Donoghue was met with a clinical header from the in running Dean Carew.

Clodiagh were 2 up shortly after when a free kick by John Ryan found Jody Brennan inside the penalty area. Brennan controlled the ball before finding the net with a low drive.

Clodiagh pressed for more and were particularly threatening from set pieces. A succession of corners while creating some chances yielded no further goals before the break.

Borrisokane began the second half with purpose and got on level terms with 2 quick fire goals mid way through the half. The first came when Mark Kelly breached the Clodiagh rearguard and lobbed the on rushing Brian Hanrahan. Borrisokane's equaliser came direct from a free kick just outside the penalty area.

Clodiagh regrouped and refused to give in. They hit the front again with 20 minutes to go when a free kick delivery by Thomas Ryan was met with another fine header by Dean Carew.

5 minutes later Clodiagh scored the insurance goal when some neat build up play involving Rory Ryan and Ailbe O'Donoghue on the left of the penalty box released Darragh Brennan at the back post and he fired home.

Borrisokane gave everything in the final quarter and threw caution to the wind. They scored a third late on again from a direct free kick but Clodiagh held out for a much deserved win.
