Clodiagh crashed out of the Divisional Cup at the quarterfinal stage in an enthralling encounter in Drombane on Sunday last.

Another strong squad lined for the home side as they tried to continue their recent run of good form against a clever Templetouhy side.

Both teams started brightly and exchanged goal chances at both ends with Brian Hanrahan coming close for Clodiagh only to thwarted by the keeper.

Templetouhy broke the deadlock on 23 minutes when a defensive mix up gave the away striker a one on one with Robbie Hanrahan and the Clodiagh keeper could only parry a shot into the net.

Clodiagh came back strongly and a period of persistent pressure finally paid off when Joe Cullagh managed to bungle a fumbled save over the line to leave the game level and delicately poised at half time.

The second half began brightly for Clodiagh again, and the home side took the lead in the 54th minute when a decent Paul Kennedy free kick was flicked beautifully into the net by Mattie Stakelum.

This lead lasted 11 minutes when once again a defensive mix up allowed Templetouhy back into the game and soon after the away side controversially took the lead from a corner

Almost immediately Templetouhy extended their lead and once again defensive errors from Clodiagh left the striker with just Hanrahan in the Clodiagh net to beat.

Clodiagh pressed hard for an equaliser in the final 15 minutes and were given a glimmer of hope after Sean Stakelums mazy dribble into the Templetouhy box was cruelly ended with a scything tackle, the resultant penalty was buried by Mattie Stakelum.

A frenetic last ten minutes ensued but unfortunately as Clodiagh pressed for the all important equaliser Templetouhy took advantage of the gaps in the home defence and killed the game off with 5 minutes remaining with a nicely taken goal.
