Clodiagh got their season under way with an away trip to Borrisokane in the shield on Sunday last.

In what was a typical early season encounter Clodiagh lost out in a tight, scrappy affair.

Although not at their best Clodiagh created numerous chances with Jody Brennan going agonisingly close with 3 headed efforts, 2 of which hit the frame of the goal. Borrisokane went ahead mid way through the first half when a floated free kick led to some head tennis in the Clodiagh penalty box.

Clodiagh paid the price for failing to clear and Borrisokane profited with a back post header from close range making it 1-0 to the home side.

Clodiagh's response was positive and they almost equalised when a David Considine cross was met by Daragh Brennan who fired over.

Shortly after Jody Brennan got a glancing header to a David Considine corner only to see the ball strike the post.

The same combination got Clodiagh level before the break when Considine's free kick from 20 yards was half blocked by the keeper and Jody Brennan tucked away the rebound.

Brennan went close again early in the second half only to see his effort hit the post again.

Typically Borrisokane took the lead mid way through the half when a left footed shot from long range by their striker gave Keith Ryan no chance in the Clodiagh goal.

Borrisokane stifled the visitors in the final 20 minutes although Clodiagh almost took the tie to penalties late on when that man Jody Brennan headed just over.
