Clodiagh Rangers second brigade arrived to a very impressive Holycross FC set up on Sunday afternoon last to play this Division 3 league fixture in front of a well supported Holycross side.
Clodiagh Rangers B' travelled with a large squad leaving manager, PJ Kennedy, with a welcome selection conundrum

This encounter was very much a game of two halves and on a spacious pitch conducsive to good football, Clodiagh worked produced some good passages of football creating plenty of fine chances early in the game. The away side took a deserved lead after Eamon Cullagh raced down the left flank and fired the ball into box, and when the ball was only cleared to the edge of the area, up stepped Rory Ryan to fire a rocket into the top corner.

Clodiagh Rangers managed to create a number of further chances in the first half but never scored the elusive second goal.

Clodiagh Rangers were made to rue this in the second half, when they faced a determined fight back from the home side with a partisan crowd cheering them on all the way. Holycross hit the crossbar twice and troubled the Clodiagh Rangers goal on a number of occasions with a series of corner kicks.

When the equaliser arrived on seventy minutes through Joseph O'Meara, it had an air of inevitability as the momentum was firmly with the home team.

Clodiagh Rangers emptied the bench in the second half, and it was two of the subs that combined to almost steal it for the Drombane men when John Ryan(Casey) played Andrew Quirke through on goal, but the Holycross keeper was equal to the task.

The Clodiagh Rangers defence held resolute for the remainder of the game with Leonard Purcell excelling under difficult circumstances.
