Clodiagh Rangers C' faced promotion-chasing Lough Derg 'B' in a third fixture played in Drombane on Sunday looking to continue their slow but steady climb off the bottom of the table.

Despite the considerable journey travelled by Lough Derg, they started the fixture much the brighter and took an early lead with a headed goal at the back post from a corner kick.

Clodiagh Rangers slowly got to grips with their lively opponents as the half progressed with Morgan Greene marshalling the defence, and were unlucky not to equalize before the interval.

Jamie Moloney sent a powerful header narrowly over the bar and Niall Grant forced a good save from the Lough Derg keeper after some considered approach play.

Clodiagh Rangers finally found the breakthrough midway through the second half when Niall Grant swung in a corner and Jamie Moloney rose highest to head home emphatically.

Despite dominating much of the contest, and Paddy Ryan almost firing the home side into the lead, as the game entered the final stages Lough Derg were in the ascendency and Clodiagh Rangers were indebted to Pat Treacy in goal and defensive grit to hold out for a hard-earned point.
