A composed performance by Clodiagh Rangers C' yielded their first league win of the season against Nenagh Celtic C' in Drombane on Sunday.

After racking up no fewer than six draws the Drombane men finally broke their duck and deservedly chalked up a win.

Despite Nenagh Celtic starting slightly better in the opening ten minutes, the home side settled into their stride and both Pat Phelan and Niall Grant came close to opening the scoring before the lead goal arrived.

A defence splitting pass by Seamus Cullagh found Jack Spillane who advanced on goal and finished clinically into the bottom corner.

Nenagh Celtic responded well with a period of sustained possession and drew level when a long throw was met with a Johnny Lawlor header at the back post.

Clodiagh Rangers fought back instantly and some off the cuff play by Niall Grant from a set piece resulted in the award of a penalty.

Grant took a quick corner kick, exchanging passes with Jack Spillane before evading the Nenagh fullback only to be unceremoniously hacked down by the subsequent Nenagh challenge.

Jody Brennan stepped up and slotted the ball low to the keepers right hand corner giving him no chance.

The second half was closely contested but the home side gave the visitors precious few chances, and Clodiagh Rangers were menacing on the counter attack with Niall Shanahan and Stephen Gleeson coming close to extending the lead.

Clodiagh Rangers finally wrapped up the points with five minutes remaining when a clever lobbed shot by Jack Spillane found the top right hand corner for his brace to cap a fine personal performance.
