Clodiagh Rangers 'C' were visitors to fellow division three strugglers Rearcross 'B' on Saturday evening for their opening fixture of the new year under floodlights in Rearcross.

Clodiagh Rangers started brightly with a Stephen Gleeson header rattling the post after two minutes. Clodiagh Rangers were on top for most of the half and fashioned a number of chances with Niall Grant and Jack Spillane both going close.

Despite Clodiagh Ranger's best efforts Rearcross held them out and agonizingly for the Drombane side took the lead on the stroke of half time when a long range effort found the top corner of Patrick Lowry's goal.

Clodiagh Rangers had a catastrophic beginning to the second half and conceded a further four goals in quick succession leaving themselves an impossible task to salvage a result.

The visitors did manage to recover somewhat for the final half hour and created a host of chances, of which substitute Niall Shanahan scored what a consolation and was unlucky not to net a second.

The extent of the defeat was a bitter pill for Clodiagh Rangers as their performance for much of the contest was good despite a calamitous twenty minutes after the break.
