Clodiagh Rangers C' travelled to Gurtagarry on Sunday for the quarter final of the divisional cup hoping for an extended cup run to end the season on a high note.

It was the hosts, however, who began much the brighter of the two sides, and after some neat interplay through the centre, Gurtagarry fashioned the chance to open the scoring leaving Clodiagh Rangers with an uphill task.

The visitors settled into the tie and were unfortunate not to equalize on two occasions with David Considine hitting the crossbar with one freekick, and saw a second expertly saved by Brendan Hayes in the Gurtagarry goal.

The Drombane side suffered another setback on the half hour mark when Gurtagarry struck a second goal with a shot from distance.

Clodiagh Rangers managed an immediate riposte when the in form Considine lobbed the opposing keeper from inside the penalty area to reduce the arrears to the minimum at the break.

The visitors paid a heavy price for starting the second half in sluggish fashion and found themselves two goals down shortly after the restart when an unmarked Dinny Corcoran tapped home a left wing cross from close range.

Clodiagh Rangers to their credit persevered in pursuit of a goal that might revive the tie, but despite Keith Ryan having a couple of half chances the Gurtagarry keeper was relatively untroubled and Gurtagarry progressed to the semi final stages.
