Clodiagh U12A team consolidated their position at the top of the Premier Division following an impressive win over fellow title challengers Nenagh in their own back yard last Saturday morning.

Having put rivals BT Harps to the sword in their previous contest by 4-1, Clodiagh were determined to continue their momentum and it was Nenagh's turn to lose out by the same score-line this time.

The visitors applied the pressure on Nenagh from early on and following several near misses they eventually broke the deadlock when a looping cross skimmed the head of a home defender and ended up in the home side's net.

Clodiagh continued to push forward in search of a second but Nenagh posed a threat on the counter attack and struck the crossbar with a fine effort close to the break.

The key moment of the match arrived five minutes into the second period when Jason O'Dwyer showed great skill and strength to shrug off two tackles as he strode into the box and unleashed a lovely crisp finish to the bottom corner of the net to make it 2-0 to Clodiagh.

This fine effort from the midfielder gave his team renewed energy and within minutes they increased their lead further when a trademark Luke Shanahan run came to an abrupt halt inside the area with the Clodiagh captain unceremoniously upended. Shanahan tucked away the resultant penalty impressively.

The visitors were not finished yet as they continued to search for more goals and with three minutes remaining Luke Shanahan grabbed his second from close range. As the contest fizzled out Nenagh broke through for a consolation goal on the stroke of full time.
