Clodiagh U14's recovered brilliantly from the disappointment of losing out to a late winner in Letterkenny last week by accounting for top Limerick side Fairview Rangers in the South West Regional quarter final of the SFAI Cup in Drombane on Saturday.

Despite going behind early on, following a piece of individual magic from the Fairview centre forward, Clodiagh rolled up their sleeves and soon levelled things with a fine header from Jack Kennedy.

Minutes later Oisin Treacy headed home another cross but the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside infringement. Then Stephen Ferncombe fired Clodiagh ahead after a sweeping move to leave it 2-1 at the break.

Within minutes of the restart the home side gave themselves some breathing space when Charlie Yates outpaced the Fairview rearguard and ran onto a James Griffin punt to cooly sidestep the keeper and slot the ball home.

Eight minutes from the end Luke Shanahan guaranteed the victory when he weaved his way in from the right flank and finished in style.

However Fairview had one last kick in them as they pulled a consolation goal back in the dying seconds with a crisp strike from the edge of the area to leave it 4-2 at the final whistle.

The U14's have a trip to Clare next where they'll face Tulla in the Area semi final with the potential reward of contesting the Regional final against fellow North Tipp rivals Nenagh the prize on offer should they overcome the East Clare outfit.
