In their last outing before their National Cup trip to Letterkenny next weekend our U14's kept up their good momentum with a solid victory of Templemore side BT Harps in the final game of the day.

Harps had stunned an off colour Clodiagh earlier in the campaign with a battling 2-1 win in Templemore so the home side were anxious to impose themselves early in this encounter.

Jamie Davern opened the scoring after eight minutes with a good close range finish. Two minutes before the break Luke Shanahan made a lung bursting run to get on the end of an excellent Jack Kennedy cross and make it 2-0.

Harps were thrown a lifeline early in the 2nd half when they found the net following a dangerous set piece.

However Clodiagh responded immediately when they forced a penalty after another trademark Jack Kennedy run was abruptly ended in the area.

The Harps keeper was equal to the task though as he blocked the resultant spot kick from Stephen Ferncombe.

Minutes later it was 3-1 when Oisin Treacy rose highest to head home from a corner and the game was put beyond the visitors shortly afterwards when Ferncombe made up for his earlier penalty miss by striking a goal of the season contender. The prolific midfielder invoked memories of Dutch legend Marco Van Basten when he expertly struck a thunderous volley from the edge of the area giving the Harps custodian no chance this time.

Substitute Mikey Griffin got in on the act three minutes from time with a tidy finish to leave it 5-1 in the end.

Best for Clodiagh were the hard running Jack Kennedy and centre half Jason O'Dwyer who has really settled into the role of late with several dominant displays.
