Clodiagh U14's advanced to the last 32 of the SFAI National Cup when they produced their best display of the season to overcome Clare champions Shannon Town in Drombane.

The visitors had the perfect start when they broke through to score after only two minutes with a good move in from the left flank resulting in a tidy finish at the back post from close range.

Mid-way through the first half Clodiagh were level when Oisin Treacy reacted quickest to a good set piece delivery and volleyed home from ten yards.

The home side went on to dominate the rest of the match but had to wait until twelve minutes from time to take the lead their play deserved when Oisin Treacy delivered a perfect cross to the back post and Jamie Davern made no mistake with a bullet header from four yards.

Six minutes later the victory was sealed when Luke Shanahan played a slide rule pass into the onrushing Stephen Ferncombe and he cooly slotted home Clodiagh's third to leave it 3-1 in the end.

Several Clodiagh players caught the eye on Saturday but overall it was fine performance throughout the field.

The Drombane side have now qualified for the South West area play-offs among the five remaining teams, with their next opponents due to be Limerick city side Fairview Rangers, while they also progress to the last 32 nationally which is a great reward for their efforts.
