Clodiagh Rangers Youths travelled to Newtown to face Arra Rovers in their first competitive fixture of the season.

With a number of enforced changes, the match ebbed and flowed with the visitors having the more guilt edged opportunities which produced a number of fine saves from the home side's keeper.

The best of the chances fell to Stephen Quinn and Dean Carey, who both produced impressive displays in the middle of the park.

The home side began to get a foothold in the game and Clodiagh Rangers had Gavin Ryan in goal to thank for some excellent decision making to ensure parity in the game at half time.

The second half saw Clodiagh Rangers lift the pace and both TJ Butler and Loughlin Ryan took every opportunity to get forward and cause headaches down the flanks.

Niall Grant, who played as the lone front man, continuously threatened and provided a good outlet going forward. The first goal of the game came with twenty minutes to play when Stephen Quinn drove at the defence and despite falling, managed to get up and shoot on target, beating the keeper low to his right.

Arra Rovers made a number of changes but were restricted to shooting from distance due to the fine defensive displays shown by Toby Clancy, Connor Ryan and Jack Butler.

Clancy capped a fine individual performance when he cut in from the left and placed the ball underneath the advancing keeper to seal the victory with only minutes remaining.
